Degree Works Project

The Degree Works project was one of the largest projects I worked on. It actual started prior to my enrollment in the MS Education: Information Technology program and has continued at various levels for the last three years. I have been able to apply a significant portion of my learning experiences from the MS Ed program to the Degree Works project.

The Degree Works project aligns with ISTE Standard 1.d for Teachers because I was able to model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging with faculty, staff, students, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments to accomplish the goals and objectives of the project. Not only did we meet with constituents via face-to-face meetings but I also collaborated with an outside implementation company via web-ex meetings, as well as using a Google site for internal project management and implementation team collaboration.

The image you see below is the landing page for the Google site I created to assist in managing the Degree Works project. This Google site functioned as a way for me to communicate with my team and other constituents on the status of the project, share relevant documents, and provide up to date user guides throughout the project.

This artifact also aligns with ISTE Standard 2.b for Teachers because throughout the Degree Works project I collaborated with faculty, staff, and students regarding the implementation of the Degree Works Online Degree Evaluation Tool. The Google site allowed the implementation team to collaborate using digital tools and resources to facilitate easier implementation as well as tracking of essential information.

In addition, the Degree Works project also allowed me to contribute to the Degree Works learning community as a leader and learner. This portion of the project aligns well with ISTE Standard 5.b and 5.d for Teachers as it afforded me the opportunity to contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the Degree Works User community as well as demonstrate a vision of technology infusion. I was also able to participate in shared decision making throughout the project while supporting and building the Degree Works community at Western Oregon University. Throughout the implementation I was able to offer developmental opportunities for my team in regards to leadership and technology skills as they relate to Degree Works.
